Location: Academy/Palmer Room Come learn from military sustainability veterans how they created success at their installations and see what great concepts are being implemented. This event is designed to inspire, spur dialogue, and understand how to overcome barriers and inertia.

Included: presentations from two CSU graduate students.

| 4:00 – 5:00 | Workshop Session 2 | | Military | Safeguarding Natural Resources: Managing for Climate Change Impacts Location: Academy/Palmer Room Mary Barber, Fort Carson Sustainability – Climate change is already altering many of the nation's natural ecosystems, and climate impacts on wildlife habitat and military training lands will increase significantly over the next several decades. Adaptation to climate change may require fundamental changes in how, when and where managers employ conservation tools and actions. This session will summarize anticipated changes in the climate of Colorado, especially the transition and plains ecosystems and describe approaches to assessing and managing climate change impacts.
| | Community | Sustainable Urbanism Location: Pikes Peak/Royal Gorge/Seven Falls Room John Olson, Meghan Riesterer, and Ryan Tefertiller – U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Southern Colorado Branch; Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) Colorado; and the City of Colorado Springs have teamed up to present innovative and sustainable planning approaches for the physical development of the built environment and its public realm. The focus of the discussion will be on using a form-based code to build a more sustainable, healthy downtown.

Learn about drivers for sustainable living, climate change, and limited fossil fuels resources (particularly oil and gas), and what individuals can do to reduce their carbon footprint.

Tuor, Vice Chair International Masdar ‘Green’ City Program Director, CH2MHill Location: Grand Ballroom Ms. Nancy Tuor is Group President and Executive Sponsor for Sustainability. She recently served as Program Manager on the MASDAR ‘Green’ City development in the United Arab Emirates. CH2M HILL is the delivery partner for the first phase of the MASDAR development, a carbon-neutral and zero-waste sustainable city nestled in the heart of Abu Dhabi—the first major hydrocarbon producing nation. MASDAR is a comprehensive Abu Dhabi government program to address the issues of sustainable energy sources and environmental practices. The program is focused on developing and commercializing advanced and innovative technologies in renewable, alternative, and sustainable energies. The 6-km2 energy, science, and technology community is currently under construction.

| Speaker - Kris Spaulding – Design for Environment – Herman Miller Location: Grand Ballroom Kris Spaulding joined Herman Miller’s Design for Environment team in 2007 after 8 years in dealer development and marketing, most recently as Product Manager for Filing and Storage. Her role involves working with global product development teams and Geiger International to ensure the safety of materials used in products. Kris also works closely with MBDC (McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry) to implement their Cradle-to-Cradle Design(SM) Protocol at Herman Miller. She has been active in educating employees about reducing their carbon footprint and meets regularly with customers to discuss Herman Miller’s environmental programs.
