Catamount Institute is working with a variety of organizations on the development of an assessment tool for business professionals in the Pikes Peak region to examine internal and external business practices as it relates to the health and well-being of our ecosystem, economic sustainability, and human capital investment.  There are many benefits to assessing business practices including stimulating healthy growth and development of your businesses and community to ensuring the human well-being and happiness of people who work and live within the communities of your business, whether it is locally, nationally, and/or globally.

The Pikes Peak Sustainable Business Network’s primary goal is to provide resources, tools, and information that will not only promote sustainable economic prosperity but help companies grow along the pathway of improved business practices and promote triple-bottom line accounting.  That is why we are dedicated to creating an assessment tool focused on the Pikes Peak region which will assist business leaders in measuring their own performance and capture the broader impact of their business.

Benefits of assessing your business include:
• Create value
• Differentiation among competitors
• Realize new revenue streams through improved process
• Assess capital and new markets
• Save on cost and improve profit
• Increase trust among stakeholders
• Proactive rather than reactive response to inefficiencies
• Improve financial risk and increase financing opportunities for capital improvements

The PPSBN Assessment Tools will be available soon.

Following are some assessment tools for your use/review:
The Concise Self-Assessment Guide to Environmentally Sustainable Commerce (click to download in PDF format). The guide is a self-assessment tool to help a business increase product and service efficiency, reduce energy demands, and reduce environmental impact. It helps identify and prioritize opportunities for sustainable development that exist in each stage of a product lifecycle.

The Corporate Ecosystem Services Review (ESR) is a structured methodology for corporate managers to proactively develop strategies for managing business risks and opportunities arising from their company’s dependence and impact on ecosystems.

Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) has published a Synthesis Report:  "Measuring Corporate Imact on Ecosystems:  A Comprehensive Review of New Tools." Sissel Wage, Emma Steward and Kit Armstrong. December 2008.
